About the Team and the Role

eBay is seeking a Senior Engineer for their Cloud Databases and Storage organization, that builds and runs petabyte scale core data platform that powers large scale database, storage, caching and media infrastructure. This position will have the opportunity to architect, build and operate the next generation distributed database and storage platform that powers some of the most critical systems powering eBay's global ecommerce business. You will be responsible for scaling eBay's core data infrastructure by working closely with other engineers, customers, business partners, and product managers.

What You Will Accomplish

• You will be building and managing massively scalable database and storage systems for eBay
• As a self-motivated and enthusiastic technical leader of our team, you will collaborate with extremely inquisitive and proficient peers leading and designing data infrastructure using your strong background in distributed systems, storage and large-scale database systems
• You will work in an agile environment with a focus on problem solving and engineering precision
• As a technical leader you are expected to assess technology problems, design optimal solutions and drive implementation to meet the business expectations
• You will collaborate closely with peers Architects, Engineering leaders and Product Managers to develop innovative solutions that meet functional and non-functional standards and expectations
• As a senior engineer, you will guide junior in your team and also across other cloud teams in building scalable, high speed, distributed systems and advocate for meeting the design and quality standards
• You will contribute to the design, development, testing, release, triage, bug fix, documentation and rest of the cycles in product development and maintenance

What You Will Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science plus 8+ years of experience or MS in Computer Science plus 6+ years of hands-on experience in building large-scale distributed systems
• Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures and algorithms
• Experience in architecting, designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software systems, storage and database
• Extensive hands-on experience and expertise in Object-Oriented Design, Distributed Programming, and: C++ and various database systems (NoSQL and relational) at scale
• Drive architecture discussions, produce well-documented design docs, and participate in design and code reviews
• Ensure code quality and maintainability by evolving architecture and tech stack, refactoring, standards and improving build and test systems
• Deep expertise in PostgreSQL internals: storage/buffer manager, WAL, MVCC, lock manager, query planner/executor
• Strong transaction management background: isolation levels, concurrency control, deadlock detection, crash recovery, physical/logical replication, and HA/failover strategies
